When we talk about Tiffany Godoy, we have to think in style with capital letters. Hers is such an interesting story it´s one we might read if she even finds time in her busy schedule to write her own biography (maybe as part of her personal line of publications about style phenomenon in Tokyo-Take note Tiffany!) Ill be the first one in line waiting for her to sig my copy. Tiffany is a fashion editor for several international publications, art director of successful projects, writer of authentic books, consultant at important cosmetic brands, host of savage parties and many other things, but must importantly, she is an icon within a society twisted in frivolous craziness…

Beautiful lady T has lived in Japan since 1997 -more than 10 years now! That is why she understand both Japanese and American culture, up to the point that she was possibly the first person to know that Gothic Lolitas would drool over Marc Jacob´s ruffles at Vuitton- an observation she made to New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn some time ago. Her voluptuous CV gives her international recognition that goes further than just her professional life. she has a large following of devoted Japanese girls and boys for her individual style and her adaptive ability to understand Nippon street-fashion culture so well, especially with the complicated language. Besides her routine projects, Tiffany is also presenter at live shows and fashion events in Japan, and is currently working on an ambotious new publication called Reality Show…

The latest issue of V Magazine “All the world’s a stage” included a shot by Mario Testino inspired on a Latin American myth, Maria Felix. She was born in Los Alamos Sonora, an arid province in the north of Mexico and just after being discovered, she started a controversial but unforgettable career, however, it wasn’t till the film “Doña Barbara”, where she got the nickname that is still being remembered, “La Doña”.

She was blessed with a classic beauty besides to a strong exotic touch, everything in a shape full of a particular kind of folkloric elegance that made her the Mexican femme Fatale par excellence.
Although her work it’s almost full of mexican thematic, she also tried other international markets, especially the european one, as she was always attracted by an european aesthetic close to the Chic french style. But everyone knows stars are not for ever: she died the same day as she was born, closing a perfect cycle that seemed to be coldly calculated – yes, this is just and example of her strong temperament-. Her coffin was put the next 22 hours after her death at the Fine Arts Palace in Mexico city and during all this hours and on, the way to the cemetery was always accompanied by loads of people singing a song composed by one of her husbands Augustin Lara, “Maria Bonita”.

Croatian born designer Damir Doma, is now on the top of a wave of designers that is trying to change the perception of the “Cocktail dressing” culture that was dominating all around the last years. After his studies in Germany and working with designers such as Raf Simons, he debuted in 2007 with a successful menswear collection for those who refuse to wear skinny jeans. And for this fall winter 2010 he was complete stunning with his proposal for this new kind of woman, based on a strong contrast especially because meanwhile his conception for menswear talks about sensitivity, in the case of womenswear the collection breaths strength and a kind of severity.

Fortunately he is not alone, he moves in a line of designers like Matthew Ames, Marios Schwab or Haider Ackermann and in the case of big houses, there are some nice changes like Hannah McGibbon for chloe or Phoebe Philo at Celine. Now that we are almost at the beginning of a new decade, everything is becoming cleaner and realistic but extremely creative and fresh at the same time, and so, what we have to expect is that our society is ready for this new kind of dressing with feminist shades and start thinking about homogeneity more than ever.

Here it is, the introduction of my two latest interviews with Monsieur Samuel Drira, Encens magazine Director and kuki de Salvertes from Totem fashion for the latest Issue of Metal magazine, with their review about spring summer 2010 menswear and womenswear.

The Masculine collections by Kuki de Salvertes

Extreme & Flamboyant

Complete article at Metal magazine # 19
Text: Dodi Espinosa, Portrait: Thierry Dreyfus

French press attache par excellence Kuki de Salvertes, debuted at Moschino on the early 80’s, since then, he is a full-timer in fashion, always on the side of brilliant names with a special sensitivity for surprise and astonishment and a strong reject for the commercial mass market products or weak universes.

Thanks to all his years of experience in the world of fashion and to his own artistic sense, Kuki de Salvertes, now leads one of the most well known press offices devoted to innovative and promising young designers: Totem. Building it the same way as an art collector, becoming each day more and more demanding, choosing each designer in an equilibrated balance between creativity and business potentials and fueled by a genuine passion for the strongest design and creation.
Now, that he can be proud of have being always representing a selection of the best designers of the moment for around 30 years, the only word I may use to describe him is curiously Totem, staying always like a immovable reference as time goes by and here we are glad to have him, sharing with us, his personal view for the spring summer 2010 man. A project that started rememoring a conversation we had some years ago when we met, recovered now as he has been always much more interested in menswear, so we are bringing to you a selection of fabrics, superpositions and colors that deserves to be highlighted for the upcoming season under the view of Monsieur Kuki de Salvertes…

The Feminine Collections by Samuel Drira

Silhouettes constructed like a language.

Complete article at Metal magazine # 19
Text: Dodi Espinosa, Portrait: Sybille Walter.

Samuel Drira, deep old magazines collector is the director hand in hand with Sybille walter of Encens revue, in my opinion, one of the best fashion publications ever. In 2002 the two created an endless source of inspiration, elegance and culture, which is outstanding for the way they talk about fashion history and conceptual art, and since then, it has become a point of reference for those who prefer authenticity instead of ephemeral tendences.

When I talk with Samuel I can´t avoid to think about a “non fashionable” style and for sure independence as a fundamental principle, a difference that has become the key in everything of his work. But to keep an independent vision means to have an independent production, of course, spending 4 intensive months for each issue, from the idea until the actual print, they never take care of success or strategies to reach it as they want to keep Encens magazine as a curator fashion masterpiece, always working on each issue as the last one.

He also works as a stylist, creating several kinds of collaborations with promising designers in the contemporary fashion scene like Matthew Ames, Damir Doma, Fabrics Iinterseason or Bruno Pieters. He always stays with his characteristic and smart sense of realism, which he besides regularly contributes to important publications such as Vogue Russia. Now that he is also with us, as the other side of the project doing the same collaboration as Kuki de Salvertes. Although this time, thinking about the upcoming woman for spring summer 2010, that emerges like a new beginning in words of professionals. A new kind of woman without body restrictions and with strong shapes based in jackets, capes and luxurious fabrics…

“This year has just started and some recent events are proving what professionals were expecting to happen. -2010 is a year of changes-, a brand new generation of designers is emerging with authentic discourses, and at the same time concepts and shapes are transforming, remembering what happened around nineties when a group of designers changed the fashion history course….”

This is how the latest issue of Metal Magazine starts a special review for this spring-summer with the collaboration of two important personalities in the Parisian fashion scene, Kuki de Salvertes from Totem Agency and Samuel Drira from Encens Magazine, both giving their personal vision about whats going on and what is supposed to happen.
This review is structured by 2 interviews with me, accompanied by 2 shots with a styling of each one, in the case of Kuki de Salvertes with Driu & Tiago as photographers shooting menswear in decadent dandy aesthetic, and in the case of Samuel Drira in his recognizable line with the collaboration of Olivier Jacquet for womenswear.
